About Us
Hamilton Area Eco-Network (Eco-Net) is a non-profit organization created to network the Hamilton area's environmental organizations and build their capacity. Starting with 22 organizations from across Hamilton and its surrounding communities, Eco-Net's membership now numbers 35. Eco-Net is governed by a steering committee comprised of representatives from its member organizations and is located at EcoHouse within the offices of its host organization, Green Venture. Eco-Net is managed by a Coordinator.
History
The Hamilton Community Foundation sponsored a series of forums to help local environmental groups identify their most pressing needs, and a vision of Hamilton Area Eco-Network was born. Subsequent funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation in 2005 allowed that vision to become a reality and Eco-Net was established.
Purpose
The purpose of the Eco-Net is to enhance and enable the work of its member organizations who are committed to protecting, conserving, restoring and promoting a clean, healthy, sustainable environment for present and future generations. Founding Principles of the Eco-Net:
The Network will:
• nurture, serve and support member groups in building their capacity to achieve their goals.
• respect the autonomy of each member organization within the Network. To this end, member groups will continue to work on their own specific environmental issues.
• focus its efforts in creating opportunities for member groups to work together, to share resources and to engage each other and the community.
• ensure resources, time and energy are focused on the desired outcomes of the collective group and will avoid duplication of existing services, efforts and initiatives within the community.
• set realistic goals and expectations, which are definable and measurable.
