Feds cuts funding to environment but give big $$ to greenwashing oil sands

Bad news for the environmental sector in Canada.  The federal government is cutting the $547,000/year funding that it provides to the Canadian Environmental Network (RCEN).  The RCEN parents & funds the OEN (Ontario Environment Network), which in turn provides information and support (not funding though) to regional environmental networks and offers workshops and conference and information to ENGO’S across Ontario.

Apparently though, the government has decided to provide a whack of funding to another “environmental” initiative:

One comment following one of the news reports is particularly telling:

The "Canada School of Energy and Environment," based in Calgary, received $15 million from the federal government.  A good part of its vocation has been, in the words of Postmedia News, "to clean up the dirty oil image of Canada's oil sands and provide the public with a more balanced view of its environmental performance
